Liz Cave
30 April - 13 May
After some years teaching art and ceramics Liz realised the clay dust was affecting her breathing. Setting out to explore other media, she joined a course in experimental printmaking tutored by the well known artist and printmaker Nicola Slattery at Marlborough College Summer School. Inspired, she came away determined that this new media was going to be her focus from then on, both in school and in her own work.
At that time, Liz was living at Inkpen, a few miles from Hungerford, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. She set up a studio in the grounds of Beacon House and bought a small printing press. The plants and immediate surroundings became the inspiration for her prints.
It wasn't long before Liz was also using dry point and monoprint techniques and embellishing the results with collage and pastels. You will see examples of these different methods in the exhibition.
For the past eight years Liz has been teaching printmaking at Marlborough Summer School in July/August, as well as exhibiting in her own Beacon Gallery and running a guest house.
Following a recent move to Minchinhampton, Liz has a small studio and hopes to run individual workshops and demonstrations to interested groups later in the year.
Liz is happy to talk about her work and the techniques involved.
