Art Couples - the DNA of art
16 January to 27 February 2010

This exhibition is a tongue-in-cheek experiment in creativity. Artists often gravitate towards other artists and many end up sharing their lives together. They may work in different disciplines and use different media but to the outside world these duos seem enviably to live and breathe creativity.
The exhibition takes several artistic couples and invites them to engage in a process of collaboration. We will showcase a piece of work by each individual artist, alongside the collaborative Art Baby that they have created together for this exhibition.
For some of our couples working together will be an easy segue, for others it might be a bit more of a struggle. We hope these collaborative works will show the DNA of art.
Will the audience be able to tell whether the Art Baby is more like one parent than the other, will our artists be able to work harmoniously? Can we detect the obvious passion and care that is required for two people to collaborate and produce something they can both be proud of?

We are programming events around this exhibition that highlight the debate of ownership and copyright. We hope to discuss some of the consequences of working in collaborative creative partnerships.
We will be showing films, running workshops, hosting a Love Poetry Slam, and our Artists café will be a special edition ‘Any Questions?’ panel discussion chaired by Ian Wilson, writer and art critic. New Brewery Arts will be a whirl of creative energy during January and February.

Turner Prize should include some of these wonderful exhibits.
Brilliant exhibition – what a wonderful idea. I have had to come in several times to take it all in!
Exciting. Repeat visit essential.
The wooden drawers were fantastic, all the history and magic in one place.
What a delightful surprise. A treasure trove. Thank you.
That set of drawers was so creepy and random.
Wonderful!
