Penny has been an Art and Craft teacher for 20 years, after studying Combined Crafts at Manchester Metropolitan university and taking a PGATC at Goldsmiths college. She has taught in Britain and internationally; the last 10 years living and working in Luxembourg.
Penny was re- introduced to felt making by a German colleague about eith years ago and immediately became hooked by it, loving the flexibility of the material and the simple but magical process of creating a hard wearing cloth from a pile of wool fibres. It is a very painterly process laying and blending the wool fibres but it can also be very sculptural, moulding it into 3D structures that hold their shape.
Penny works to commission as well as developing her own ideas using everything around her as an influence, from a pattern or design seen on a surface to a beautiful landscape. She loves teaching skills to people of all ages and encouraging and facilitating their development in the medium whether during a one off workshop or a prolonged course.
