27 June to 23 August 2009
On Friday 21 August we announced the winner of our first, highly successful, New Brewery Arts OPEN competition. There were over 6,000 visitors to the exhibition - and more than 2,000 votes in the Public Choice category.
To her delight, the winner of both the Charmian Adams award and the Public Choice award was Ellie Davies, pictured discussing her work with Charmian Adams.
Ellie submitted two photographs (C-type lightjet prints) from her Silent, Dark + Deep series (one shown below), which can be seen on her website www.elliedavies.co.uk

New Brewery Arts OPEN competition
on the theme of ‘Crossings’
Exhibition 27 June – 23 August 2009
Charmian Adams Award £750
Public Choice Award £500
Sponsored by Davies Mayers Barnett
We had a massive response to our call for entries for this new OPEN competition. Artist makers from all over the UK and beyond, working in any media, submitted up to three pieces.
Thirty-eight artists were chosen by our selection panel: Charmian Adams, President of The Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen and collector of contemporary crafts, Dail Behennah, internationally renowned Designer Maker, and Saffron Wynne, critically acclaimed curator at The Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
The resulting exhibition represented our theme of ‘Crossings’.
The Charmian Adams Award was given to the selectors’ chosen maker and the Public Choice Award was voted for by visitors to the gallery during the exhibition.
