What interests me in a photograph? Why do I make an image?
It is often the light, the shape, the colour and form. Sometimes it is quite simply a quirky image that has caught my imagination … the detail. Giving myself the time to see; too often, it seems, we look without seeing.
My camera allows me to slow down and to explore. We do not have to travel far to do this; it can be on our own doorstep. However, in the past few years I have been fortunate enough to travel within Europe (Britain, Italy, Sicily), to North America (Montana, Vermont, Wyoming), and to Bhutan, China, Egypt, Jordan, Mongolia & Nepal.
Background:
Although not formally trained as a photographer since 2004, when I started to take my photography more seriously, I have been on numerous workshops on location with leading UK landscape photographers (Charlie Waite, Nick Meers, Clive Minnitt, Phil Malpas, David Ward & David Noton). Inspiration has come from the images in National Geographic magazine and the portrait photographs of Jane Bown and the work of Paul Harris.
Although I now work in digital I do very little ‘post-processing’ work so the images in the exhibition are those which I saw ‘in camera’.
