For one to two months each year Dorothy works with hand-weaving projects in SE Asia.
"I am not a weaver but I have the opportunity to work with silk and cotton weavers in Laos. Together we produce the fabric for the garments I design and make. I particularly enjoy working with natural fibres and natural dyes. Laos is particularly rich in these. The work I do in Laos is mutually beneficial."
In a new venture for 2013, in conjunction with Steppes Travel, Dorothy will be sharing her expert knowledge on escorted tours to Thailand and Laos.
Her focus will be on textiles, from the revival of the silk industry, through the technology used to conserve rare textile collections, from studying the fabrics of diverse ethnic groups to techniques involved in weaving and the use of natural dyes.
A regular on the Textile Trail circuit, Dorothy will be throwing open her studio to visitors as part of the Stroud International Textiles Select Trail on 11/12 and 18/19 May 2013.
See our own Voices exhibition by Quilt Art that will be showing from May to July.
