National Poetry Competition
Now in its 33rd year, the Poetry Society’s National Poetry Competition is one of the world’s biggest and most prestigious poetry competitions. Winners include both established and emerging poets and for many the prize has proved an important milestone in their professional careers. Add your name to a roll-call of winners that includes Carol Ann Duffy, Ian Duhig, Philip Gross, and Jo Shapcott – and have your work published in the Poetry Society’s leading international journal, Poetry Review.
The judges this year are poets George Szirtes, Deryn Rees-Jones and Sinéad Morrissey.
The prizes are: £5,000 for the overall winner, £2,000 for the second, £1,000 for the third and seven commendations of £100.

A Bonfire Night To Remember, Winter Chill, A Cotswold Christmas, Memories, Smoke and Mirrors or your own choice (only unpublished work please).

Rules:
- Any number of poems up to 80 lines may be entered.
- Poems must be the original work of the competitor and should not previously have been published in print or online, broadcast or have won a competition prize.
- All poems must be accompanied by an SAE and entry fee of £5 first poem then £4 each or £15 for 4. No ‘recorded deliveries’. Please check correct postage. Cheques/postal orders (in sterling only) should be made payable to THE YORKSHIRE OPEN POETRY COMPETITION.
- For acknowledgement of receipt of entry send an additional SAE marked ‘R’.
- For a list of winners and an adjudicator’s report send a further SAE marked ‘W’.
- The competitor’s name, address and telephone number MUST NOT appear on the poems but should be given, together with the titles of the poems, on a separate sheet of A4 paper to be sent with the entry.
- Competitors who live or work in Yorkshire are eligible for the Yorkshire Prize and should mark their poems with a ‘Y’ in the top right hand corner.
- Competitors can win only one prize. The organizers reserve the right to alter details of the competition if necessary. No correspondence will be entered into.
- The decision of the adjudicator is final.
- Poems and titles/contact details sheet with SAEs and cheques/postal orders should be sent to :

Applications are now being sought from designer makers resident in Britain and Ireland working to the highest standard in ceramics, glass, textiles, jewellery, silver, metal, wood, plastics, mix media, leather, recycled materials and paper. Sorry, no paintings, photography or musical instruments.
The Contemporary Craft Fair, in association with the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, has become one of the largest and most prestigious shows to be part of in the UK.
The lively, festival atmosphere at The Contemporary Craft Fair has built up a loyal following and we represent over 165 of the UK’s finest designer makers. Our additional on-site educational programme includes demonstrations, workshops for all ages, masterclasses and lectures by some of the UK’s leading names.
All set in a marquee village in idyllic parkland on the edge of Dartmoor in South Devon with excellent transport links via road, train and air.
Selected by an independent panel of judges.
