Artworks at Cirencester Hospital
Funding has been made available to Gillian Eames, Administrator at Cirencester Hospital, to run a 6 month Artworks scheme. The work of local artists will be exhibited to improve the environment for patients, staff and visitors. The work will be available to buy, with the artist donating 20% of the sale price to the Trust's charitable funds if the artwork is bought as a direct result of it being exhibited at the Trust.
A similar, much larger scheme is run at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Further information on that scheme can be found at http://www.gloshospitals.org.uk/content/arts/home.html.
If the 6 month trial is successful, the scheme might then roll out across all NHS Gloucestershire's sites.
Gillian is looking for people who want to exhibit for the trial period. The suggested exhibitions would have to be approved through key people in NHS Gloucestershire before the final exhibitions can be agreed. The 3 final exhibitions will all be agreed on before the scheme starts.
The proposed dates of the scheme are:
Set Up
15-19 March 2010
Exhibition 1
22 March - 14 May 2010
Take Down/Set Up
17-21 May 2010
Exhibition 2
24 May - 16 July 2010
Take Down/Set Up
19-23 July 2010
Exhibition 3
26 July - 17 September 2010
Take Down
20-24 September 2010
The general public would be invited to come and see the artwork in the restaurant at Cirencester Hospital each day between 2.00-5.00pm. Entry will be free. Any sales made will be collected at the end of each exhibition. The hanging system will most probably be the Beta system. It is wall space only, so unfortunately no freestanding work can be exhibited.
If you might be interested in exhibiting, please email artworks@glos.nhs.uk by Friday 19th February 2010 with your submission (a covering email and pictures of the artwork). Pictures of the artwork need to be available electronically as the work has to be sent to managers in NHS Gloucestershire.
Applicants should also list the 3 exhibition slots in order of preference, indicating if there are any dates that they will be away. Gillian is particularly interested in filling the first exhibition slot.
If you have any other questions, please email them to artworks@glos.nhs.uk.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by Friday 26th February 2010.

The Arts Hustings
Clore Auditorium, Tate Britain
9 March 2010 18:00 - 20:30
Booking has now opened for the NCA’s Arts Hustings event. Tickets are available online at www.artshustings.eventbrite.com. We envisage a high demand for tickets, so we urge you to book now to avoid disappointment.
The Arts Hustings puts the politicians in the hot seat and gives you the opportunity to quiz them on what they have in store for the arts and cultural sector after the 2010 General Election.
Following the success of the Future Britain conference in June 2009, the National Campaign for the Arts returns to Tate Britain to host a hustings style debate between the Arts Minister (Labour's Margaret Hodge MP), the Shadow Arts Minister (Conservative, Ed Vaizey MP) and the Liberal Democrat Shadow Culture Secretary (Don Foster MP). Each panellist will set out their party's offer for the arts and culture and answer questions on a range of arts related topics posed by, you, the audience.
We expect this to be a lively and passionate debate and a great opportunity to see where the potential future Culture Minister stands on all the issues that matter to you.
If you would like to submit a question for the panel, please email: artshustings@artscampaign.org.uk. If your question is selected, we will contact you prior to the event. There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask un-prepared, supplementary questions during the event.
A small charge will be made to cover the cost of refreshments and staffing.
Ticket prices: £12.50 +VAT - £20.00 +VAT. Book now for the Early Bird Offer.
Please note:
Cancellation received in writing up to 15 working days before a seminar will incur a £5 plus vat administration fee. Cancellations received between 14 and 8 working days will be charged at £10.00 plus vat or 50% of the original fee (whichever is greater). Cancellations of 7 working days or less will not be refunded. Substitutions can be made at any time.
It may be necessary, for reasons beyond the control of the NCA, to change the content and timing of the programme, the speakers or the venue. Programme updates will be available at regular intervals on our website: www.artscampaign.org.uk

Opportunity for aspiring authors and poets
Submit your short story to Authortrek, and you could be named the Authortrek Writer of the Month!
Once you have registered on the site, you can post your story. Registration is free. Indeed, access to the whole of Authortrek Short Stories is free.
Each short story will have a voting button. So, once you have finished posting your story, forward the story link to your friends and ask them to read and vote for your story if they like it (i.e., don't be shy!) The winning author will be named the Authortrek Writer of the Month.
You can also earn some money for your writing - if your story gets over 30 votes, then you will be asked to participate in our new scheme to publish short stories in an anthology, a free copy of which will be sent to each successful author. If your story gets over 100 votes, then we will invite you to submit a novel to us, which we will then publish as a paperback, and the author will be paid 50% of the profits from the paperback in royalties. However, the editor Kevin Mahoney still reserves the right to reject any novel submission if he feels that it does not fit Punked Books' list, and also reserves the right to source novels from elsewhere.

Artists, teachers and community arts leaders sought for new BBC series
Twenty Twenty TV is one of Britain's leading independent production companies with a reputation for producing intelligent and thought-provoking documentaries and factual programmes.
Its hugely successful BBC documentary series 'The Choir' recently won its second BAFTA award.
Inspired by the Ashington Group (otherwise known as the 'Pitmen Painters') it is currently developing a new series for the BBC, which will aim to encourage communities that might not normally have access to the visual arts to produce artworks about their lives. The project will culminate in an ambitious exhibition in a major public space.
Twenty Twenty TV is looking for artists/teachers/community arts leaders that can do for the visual arts what Gareth Malone has managed to do for choral singing - someone who passionately believes anyone can be an artist and who has the ability to enthuse and inspire people from all walks of life.
If you know someone suitable, are interested in this opportunity yourself or would simply like to know more about the project - contact Vicky Mitchell on vickymitchell@twentytwenty.tv or 0207 284 2020.
