A five week course

You will learn about the different qualities that each medium has and how to achieve great results.  If you have done some printing before, or attended the previous course, you will be helped to develop your skills and knowledge to produce more advanced work.

All our sessions aim to be relaxed and informal.  You do not need to do masses of preparatory work before each session, but it is helpful if you can put together a few ideas so that we have something to help you develop.  This could be in the form of sketches, photos or examples of an artists work whom you admire.

You will also begin to develop a knowledge of the printing process and how to recognize different types of prints.

Week 1 – How to print coloured backgrounds, tools and materials. Learn to use the press and how to ink up.  Experiment with different types of tools and block materials.  Previous students will be given support to start new projects.

Week 2 – Lino printing –  Make a block to print greeting cards, learn about registration.

Week 3 –lino printing - Build on what you have learnt to produce a more detailed or larger piece of work.

Week 4 – Woodcut - Get used to the basics of cutting and what can be achieved with the material.  Look at different styles and techniques.  Start work on a block.

Week 5 – Woodcut - Build on what you have learnt to produce and print an original piece of work.
