Adrian Bates Ceramics

Adrian is a full-time potter living and working  in Stroud in Gloucestershire. He is largely self-taught, but has done short courses over the past 18 years with the likes of John Stroomer, Richard Godfrey, Richard Phethean and others.

Initially attracted to throwing, he now makes work which is thrown, pinched, coiled, slabbed and cast; and works with a variety of  clays, slips and glazes and firing techniques to produce sculptural vessels, sculpture and some functional ware. 'Form is hero' in his work, but Adrian also embraces the utility, functionality and beauty of domestic pottery.
