Based on her own free-style approach to embroidery, textile artist Kathleen Murphy will guide you through the pleasures of ‘doodling’ with needle and thread.
This course aims to dispel the ‘stuffiness’ sometimes associated with hand embroidery and encourage a more experimental approach by taking a sideways look at techniques Through a series of samplers, each week you will concentrate on a different topic or technique, which will be brought together as a cloth book in the final session. Along the way both the current and historic context of British embroidery will be considered. By the end of the five weeks you will be familiar with concepts such as stitch families, embroidery sums and seasoning stitches, and should have a good grounding on which to continue your hand stitch doodling beyond the course. Suitable for all abilities from beginners to those wishing to refresh their hand embroidery skills.
What you will need: 6" or 7" embroidery hoop, needlecase, embroidery scissors, pen & paper
