This full day workshop is a unique opportunity to gain industry expert insight on the process of illustrating picture books.

During the course of this one day workshop, students will work create an illustrated double-page spread, taking inspiration from a poem. Students are encouraged to bring in their own sketchbooks or portfolios to stimulate discussion.

The day will be split in to two halves. The first will look portfolios, manuscripts and pagination. Korky Paul will be on hand to provide guidance on how to break a manuscript down in to spreads, provide a brief introduction to typography, and crucially the creation of a template for your work.

The second half of the day will comprise of turning your rough piece of work into a double-page spread. This will include drawing the characters and environments for your poem.

This workshop would be ideal for those wishing to pursue a career in Illustration. We welcome bursary applications from Illustration and Art students.

What you will need:
1) Portfolio of maximum 5 pieces of work you are proud of or a sketchbook of your work.
2) One children’s picture book that you love, but try to bring something that is not by well-known illustrators.
3) A short poem you would like to illustrate over a double-page spread. This poem should be clean typed, with 2 copies on to A4, printed one side only.

All materials included. Please feel free to bring your own drawing materials that you enjoy using.
