Jeremy and Carla Bonner

leather work

Jeremy graduated from Birmingham School of Art and Carla graduated from Newcastle on Tyne Polytechnic. They established Bonner Leather Studio in 2014 just outside Cirencester, where they work together.

Whilst recognising leatherwork to be one of the world’s oldest skills, their work does not intend to be either traditional or even crafty. Taking inspiration from archaic and now defunct forms of baggage or receptacle, their aim is to create something contemporary. Concentrating on simple design, multi-material integration, function and utility. Utility being “the quality of practical use; the ability of a commodity to satisfy human wants”.

In a cheerful and relaxed class, they aim to equip students with the necessary hand skills, knowledge and confidence to work with leather, while emphasizing simple straightforward design.
