Many of us gather collections of small things; shards of broken pottery, a shell, scraps of fabric from a child’s dress, a handwritten note or feather, seemingly inconsequential to anyone else but full of interest or meaning to ourselves. ‘Memory Cloth’ is a five-week, project-based course in which you will work towards creating your own unique handstitched textile piece or pieces, for example, a hanging, book or scroll, which records a personal story incorporating these precious items.
Textile artist, Kathleen Murphy will help you to tease out those stories using a variety of methods (layering, wrapping, applique and embroidery techniques) to decoratively preserve, and tell the story of, your precious items in fabric and thread. This is a stand-alone course but may also be an interesting progression for those who have completed the Creative Possibilities Using Needle and Thread course. Some previous hand stitch experience would be useful.
