A fun and friendly introduction to this fantastic craft. Steph will guide you through the basics of mark-making and carve your own lino block to print. Over the weekend you’ll learn plenty design tips and tricks, experimental inking and registration of more than one layer.


ABOUT THE COURSE

Experienced Printmaker Steph Renshaw will guide you through all the tools and materials you'll need to get started in the world of linocut. You will learn the basics of mark-making and you’ll carve your own lino block to print. Steph will cover design tips, experimental inking and registration of more than one layer. You'll have made your own set of fabulous colourful prints to take home by the end of the weekend!

Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to brush up on your skills, this immersive weekend will be perfect to explore the creative possibilities of print.

Day one

  • Introduction - Exploring the mark-making and learning about the materials

  • Carving and printing a simple experimental piece

  • Learning basics of inking and printing using a press

  • Have a go at using a simple registration device

Day two

  • Design for linocut

  • Exploring making tone experimenting with composition

  • Carving and printing your own more considered design

MEET THE TUTOR

Steph is a printmaker and print teacher based in Bristol. She is known for her colourful prints inspired by the natural world.
Steph specialises in relief and intaglio printmaking techniques and has been teaching for over 6 years form her own studio Bristol Print Room.


Steph shares all of her tips and techniques to help you get the most out of the printing process. She loves to teach both beginners and more experienced printmakers alike and will always encourage you to play and experiment with the process so her lessons are a relaxed and fun way to learn.

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or bring an apron with you.

You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio. Refreshments are available at our onsite café Blend

Accommodation

You will be staying in our stylish accommodation on site. You will have a room of your own and access to a shared kitchen.

Your booking will include 2 nights, Friday 12th January & Saturday 13th January. An additional night stay on Sunday 14th January is an optional extra.


Catering

Lunch will be served in our new on-site café Blend on Saturday and Sunday.

For your evening meal, you will have access to a fully equipped kitchen in your accommodation. Alternatively, we have a number of recommendations for some delicious eateries, only a stone’s throw away.

If you are attending the 2-day ‘Non-residential Option’ lunch on both days is included in the ticket price, as well as teas, coffees and homemade cake.
