An exploration of mark-making and stitch. Look at the design elements of colour, texture, pattern, scale and composition with textile designer Kathryn Green.

You will select a palette of colours to work with, then using a variety of mark-making tools, create an exciting array of distinctive, abstract marks and shapes over several pieces of fabric. During this workshop you will explore colour, mark-making, collage and stitch onto fabric. This is a fun and experimental workshop that looks at the design elements of colour, texture, pattern, scale and composition.

Time will then be given to exploring and selecting areas of interest in your fabrics before cutting and placing, considering composition, colour and pattern. You will then hand stitch your pieces to produce your own framed, finished art textile piece.

Students will learn about colour and how different colours affect each other; understand how simple tools can be used creatively to make striking and effective marks and patterns and learn how to select elements to develop composition. They will leave with a finished and framed art textile piece and, hopefully, ideas that they can utilise in various contexts in the future. The aim of the workshop is to create a fun and relaxed environment in which students can explore their creativity, learn new skills and develop confidence.
