Join Tamsin Quin on this half day family workshop and learn the traditional craft of wood carving.

In this two hour workshop you will learn basic greenwood carving techniques and knife safety, to whittle your own hazel butter spreader. A great introductory workshop for anyone who wants to explore woodcarving.

You will use sharp knives to carve the hazel stick into the shape of a spreader. You will practice decorating techniques, either by carving, or using a pyrography machine to burn your design onto the wood.

You will leave this workshop with a fully usable hand carved butter spreader to last for years to come and having experienced the joy of craft. The knife is great to use for spreading your favourite toast toppings.

This is a family session and for students aged 8+ but we fully encourage adults to join in too as it a very therapeutic and bonding activity. If you would like to make your own butter knife alongside your child, please book yourself a place. This will ensure there are enough tools and wood for everyone who has paid to take part.

MEET YOUR TUTOR - tamsin quin

Tamsin from Quin Woodcraft is a spoon carver and wood artist from Wiltshire, working with sustainably sourced local green wood to create beautiful and functional pieces for the home. Tamsin's obsession with carving wooden spoons started over 10 years ago and has since evolved into bowl carving, chair making and pyrography, with big commissions for two National Trust sites and funding backed by The Arts Council England. Tamsin has delivered workshops for Adults and Children across the UK independently, at festivals, and for wildlife and conservation charities. She is an enthusiastic tutor, empowering you to use your imagination to create stunning free-form pieces. Tamsin is passionate to share the positive effects of wood carving for mental and physical wellbeing, the glory of working with a natural material, and the infinite possibilities of creation with a sharp knife and a few hand tools.
