This class is for anyone who would like to pick up a bobbin and try tapestry weaving. If you already have a little experience, it’s the perfect practice session to hone your weaving skills.
On an upright table loom, get started by preparing multiple wool threads and get to grips with plain weave, practicing how to change colours. Learn how to add multiple weft threads and create geometric shapes, dots and lines. Then try your hand at the technique of colour blending. By the end of the session, you’ll have learnt several foundational tapestry weaving skills and have a small tapestry to take home.
Tapestry weaving allows you to slow down a little and be creative with an art form that plays with colour and design. It's the perfect antidote for busy people with busy lives. In a small group setting it will be lots of fun as you experiment with shapes and techniques.
All weaving materials and instruction are included, and a frame loom will be prepared for you to use in class.

Meet Your Tutor - Bridget Lane
Bridget Lane designs and weaves contemporary tapestries. Each piece is unique and handwoven on an upright frame. Influenced by the forms of late Modernism, her work explores landscapes and wild places, either physical or spiritual. Through a deconstructed view, she strips away extraneous details to convey an essence of the most basic elements, such as colour, line and form. She invites the viewer to embark on a journey of discovery into a woven world of shapes and forms, potentially reassessing the art of tapestry.
Bridget studied tapestry weaving at West Dean College of Arts & Conservation and since winning the Cordis Prize Showcase for Emerging Artists, she has exhibited work in the UK and Australia. Based in London, she regularly teaches tapestry weaving at a variety of venues and enjoys helping others develop their own journey in woven textiles.
Bridget is a selected Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and of the Find A Maker directory.
