Join ceramicist Chiara Coppola on this improvers day workshop to learn how to throw taller on the wheel.
Throwing taller forms on the wheel can feel like a real turning point in ceramics, but it often comes with its own challenges. This 1-day workshop is designed for improvers who want to build confidence creating taller, more controlled cylinders and forms on the wheel.
Throughout the day, you will focus on the techniques needed to successfully throw height, including centring larger amounts of clay, improving pulling technique, managing wall thickness, and learning how to support and shape taller forms as they grow. Demonstrations will break the process down into clear, achievable steps with plenty of individual guidance throughout the session.
You will explore common problems such as collapsing walls, uneven thickness, and loss of shape, helping you better understand why these issues happen and how to correct them.
By the end of the day, you will leave with a stronger understanding of technique, improved confidence on the wheel to continue refining in your own practice. You will choose 1 piece to be fired in our on-site electric kilns after the workshop.
