Join artist and tutor Laurie Plant in this in-depth drawing course to explore the beauty and imperfections of the human form.
In this 12-week course Laurie Plant with cover an in-depth exploration of drawing the human form which offers a thoughtful and engaging exploration of the human body and features. Designed for both beginners and those looking to deepen their practice, the course alternates between working from a live model and more personal, observational studies based on your own features, using pencil, charcoal and other mediums.
Across the programme, you’ll develop a stronger understanding of proportion, structure, gesture, and tone while gaining confidence in capturing the complexity and individuality of the human body. Life drawing sessions will focus on observation, mark-making, and interpreting the figure in space, while the self-study weeks encourage a more introspective approach—exploring identity, expression, and the subtleties of your own form through mirrors and direct observation.
Laurie will provide supportive, constructive guidance throughout, helping you refine your technique while encouraging experimentation and personal style. By the end of the course, you will have built a diverse body of work and a deeper appreciation for both the technical and expressive possibilities of figure drawing.
This course offers a balanced, reflective approach to studying the human form—combining traditional practice with personal exploration in a welcoming and respectful environment. Please note that the Life Model in some classes will be posing nude so please ensure you are comfortable working in this environment before choosing to book.
