Join enamel artist Katie Sanderson for a festive day workshop and create your own beautiful kiln-fired enamel Christmas decorations.

Discover the ancient craft of enamelling as you learn to transform copper into colourful, glass-like festive decorations that will bring sparkle to your Christmas tree year after year. Through demonstrations and one-to-one guidance, Katie will introduce the core techniques of kiln-fired enamelling, making this an enjoyable workshop for beginners and those looking to develop their skills.

Over the course of the day, you'll learn about enamelling materials, tools and safety before preparing copper shapes and applying vibrant enamel using dry-sifting, wet-packing and painting techniques. You'll explore colour mixing, learn how to fire your work in the kiln, and finish your decorations by polishing and refining them ready to hang at home or give as thoughtful handmade gifts.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have created a collection of unique enamel Christmas decorations, gained an understanding of the fundamentals of kiln-fired enamelling, and discovered a beautiful craft that you can continue exploring long after the festive season.

Meet Your Tutor - katie sanderson

Katie was first introduced to enamelling by her mother 15 years ago, herself an enamel artist. Katie went on to learn from her mother, before going on to explore this magical art form further, creating work that takes enamelling beyond its traditional methods.

Based in the Forest of Dean Katie Sanderson is an experienced enamel artist. Over the last 15 years she has honed her skills producing unique and bespoke work for many clients and galleries.

Enamelling is an ancient craft, and once Katie mastered some of it’s techniques she used more experimental methods to establish her own area of enamelling. Katie now specialises in turning any sketched idea into a piece of enamel work. Katie’s customers know that anything is possible; if she can draw it, she can enamel it! In recent years Katie has found great pleasure in sharing her experience in teaching this versatile and addictive craft.
