Take your silver jewellery making skills to the next level.

This course is for those with some jewellery making experience who would like to work on their own projects under the guidance of a tutor. It is especially suitable for those who have already completed the ‘Beginner’s Silver Jewellery’ course, but this isn’t a pre-requisite.

Over the five weeks, you will develop your knowledge around project planning and ordering materials, as well as being able to undertake your own projects. Your tutor, Hayley Kruger, will be on hand to provide guidance on techniques and problem solving. Participants will be guided with planning and purchasing the materials needed on day one and will be encouraged to use paper templates or copper provided to make test pieces and samples.

Basic and essential tools and materials are provided, but silver and gemstones are not. Part of this course is to build students confidence in researching and purchasing the materials they need for their unique projects, and so attendees will be expected to bring some of their own materials. You will be given help in learning how to do this if needed. If you have your own tool kit it is advised to bring that along so that you become familiar with what you have to hand. You may also bring in your own silver from the beginning to get started straight away.

This is a great course to build confidence for those with some silver jewellery making experience.

Please come with an idea of the work which you would like to create.

Please note that there are no taught sessions on this course, but Hayley will be able to guide and advise on methods that you would like to practice and develop, within the limits of your own experience, as well as with time and cost restraints in mind.

The room that the course is held in is a shared space and hence is not a fully equipped jewellers’ studio, so we do not have large torches for large scale projects, nor a rolling mill and other specialist equipment. However, all essential basic tools are provided.

A very small selection of silver wire, sheet and gems will be available to purchase using card payment during the course, but this will be limited.

Please note: This is for small scale jewellery projects only, not large scale jewellery or decorative items. If you have done stained glass soldering, it is not the same techniques as soldering silver or metal and you will need to attend a beginner’s course or class before attending one of these courses.
