Join writer Holly Rose for a supportive, practical 10-week course designed to help you learn the essential elements of novel writing and start writing your own book.
Whether you have a fully formed idea, a handful of characters, or simply a desire to finally write a novel, this course will give you the tools, structure and motivation to get started. Through guided writing exercises and practical tasks, you’ll explore plot, structure, pacing, character development, genre expectations, and how to write compelling beginnings and satisfying endings. You will learn how to create a realistic writing schedule, set achievable goals and keep yourself motivated throughout the process.
In the second half of the course the focus will shift from learning the craft to practicing it as you begin writing your novel. By the end of the course, you’ll have a stronger understanding of how novels work, practical techniques to guide your writing, and the foundations of your own novel underway.
The aim of this course is to give you the practical knowledge, creative tools and confidence you need to begin writing a novel and develop your idea into a workable first draft. The ultimate or more ambitious aim is to have a completed first draft by the end of the course.
Over the course of 10-weeks you will:
Understand the key elements of novel writing.
Learn practical techniques for developing characters, shaping a compelling story and maintaining momentum throughout a novel.
Understand how to plan and structure your writing.
Put the techniques you have learnt into practice through guided exercises and by working on your own novel.
Learn how to give and receive constructive feedback in a supportive writing environment.
Understand how to approach, evaluate and develop a first draft once it is complete.
Leave the course with your very own novel underway and the ability to continue writing beyond the end of the course.
