Join oil painter Claire Sandars on this day workshop to learn how to paint with oil paints.

In this workshop Claire will teach you how to capture the striking and subtle beauty of the autumn using oil paints. Claire’s step-by-step guidance will help you explore traditional and contemporary brushwork and colour mixing techniques that bring to life the tones of brown, orange, yellow and red found in an autumnal landscape.

Over the course of the day, you will start by learning about warm and cool palettes and how to mix across the colours spectrum. This will give you an understanding of the atonal greys and muted colours that work alongside more vibrant hot colours found on the trees during this season. You will then progress to brushwork techniques and spend the afternoon painting a final piece.

You will leave this workshop with the inspiration and confidence to continue your creative journey with oils and have a captivating, autumnal final piece to be proud of.

Meet Your Tutor - Claire Sandars

Claire has been a practising artist and art teacher for 20 years, she followed a Foundation course in Cheltenham with a BA in Fine Art at Reading University. On graduating she moved to London to work in two creative industries, film and art consultancy, but she was soon drawn back to an easel by a love of painting.

Alongside her own work she is greatly inspired by helping others fulfil their creative potential and has taught a wide variety of ages and abilities including at a pupil referral unit and G.C.S.E., A Level and Foundation students at the Fine Arts College in Hampstead.  She has a PGCE in Art and Design and runs adult workshops in drawing and painting.

Her very contemporary and experimental degree course combined with good knowledge of classical and traditional techniques allows her to apply a wide range of theories to her teaching.  Students are encouraged to look at the work of other artists and experiment with materials and styles.

Claire exhibits and is commissioned regularly and has more recently completed a year long residency role at Godolphin School in Salisbury.
