Join ceramic artist, Rhi Jarman, founder of Pipistrelle Design, to design, create and decorate your own ceramic animal platter.

During the workshop, Rhi will support you to develop and sketch ideas for your animal platter and to create a template for your chosen design. This will involve rolling a clay slab and cutting and shaping the piece. You will learn a variety of techniques to decorate your platter, including methods for drawing, adding details and texture, and painting your design, as well as adding colour with oxide, stains and underglaze.

Your finished piece will be glazed and stoneware fired following the class for you to collect. It can be used as a decorative or functional plate or platter, or even hung on the wall to enjoy as a piece of art!

Rhi is a creator of unique sculptural ceramics, decorative homewares and wearable art.

She is inspired by the fauna, flora and fungi that play vital roles in balancing natural ecosystems.

• You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.

Who is this workshop for?

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners, or for novice or intermediate potters to expand their hand building and decorating skills.

What you will need:

Please bring an apron or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and a hand towel. Please not that clay will wash out of fabrics.

Please remove jewellery/watches and tie long hair back. We suggest trimming long nails for ease.

All materials and firings are included, 1 piece of work will be fired.

Firings take 6 weeks from the date of the workshop, you will be contacted as soon as your work is ready. Please collect and take it home as soon as possible.
