Meet Your Tutor - NICky BROWN

Nicky is a mixed media artist, designer, maker and tutor who specialises in crepe paper botanical sculpture.

She has always loved being creative from interior decorating and paint effects to pottery, crochet, needlefelting, crepe paper flowers and jewellery making and holds a Professional Diploma in sugarcraft. She trained under the watchful eye of the paint effects guru Annie Sloan and has completed a number of interior decorating and painted furniture commissions.

Her work is inspired by her love of gardening and the natural world and you will find her in her garden or amongst the flowers somewhere. When she discovered crepe paper and the wonderful way it can be manipulated into extremely realistic flowers and plants it provided the perfect creative outlet for her.

Nicky is also a qualified teacher but has moved away from the sports field and into her studio in South Oxfordshire. She says that being able to combine making, plants and teaching is a perfect combination.

Nicky loves teaching others to make beautiful things. Encouraging positive mental health, through the making something wonderful and in the company of others, is so important to her.

She has been fortunate to teach in schools, for charities, for private occasions and for National Craft Companies and spearheaded a number of community craft projects.

Nicky has an artist firmly in her heart and a teacher's blood running through her veins.
