Do your clothes fit you perfectly? Do you fit the standard high street sizing measurements?

This practical course will allow you to learn techniques and methods to alter your clothes so that they fit you better. Bringing along your clothes each week, you will learn how to adapt the style, shorten hems, taper the waist and create a better shape that suits you. You will also learn how you can mend and repair your clothes to make your wardrobe last longer.

Each week we will tackle a new alteration and you will be guided through the process to alter or mend your clothing to fit you and your family. You will work on your own garments and at your own pace to develop your skills and confidence.

Working on a garment which you have brought in, you will learn how to measure, mark, cut and resew to make the garment fit. In the first class we will learn how to shorten or lengthen a pair of trousers. The second week we will concentrate of shortening or lengthening hems on skirts/dresses/sleeves. Students will be able to see and understand that different styles may need a different type of stitch to resew them. In subsequent classes students will learn how to taper clothes to make them more flattering and learn how to repair seams and zips.

This course is dynamic in its approach and aims to address the requirements of the alterations each individual wishes to learn. The only stipulation is that the alterations taught will concentrate on shortening or lengthening and tapering rather than enlarging clothes (making them bigger).
