Develop your portrait drawing skills in this dedicated course.

This course is for those with some experience of drawing or painting the portrait from life.

Each term a variety of portrait models are invited to pose for either one or two sessions. The classes are organised so that the artist-students can observe and work from life. Easels are arranged around the sitter and the artists are free to paint, draw or work in their own preferred, two dimensional medium.

Artist and tutor, Francis Martin is on hand to assist with problem solving, offering advice and instruction through hands on demonstration, review and critique.

Each session has a different constructive theme that the class is invited to follow. The course offers a relaxed and mindful environment in which the artists can feel free to develop their creativity.

Those looking for a more structured portrait class might enjoy ‘Portraiture, Drawing into Painting’ on Wednesday afternoons (1.45pm - 4.30pm).

MEET YOUR TUTOR - Francis Martin

Francis Martin’s work explores the light emulating effects of charcoal graphite and oil paint. Working from life and before the motif he aims to convey a personal response to his environment and the world around him. As a result his practice encompasses a broad variety of ideas and subject matter, including portraiture, landscape, life-drawing, still life and interiors.

Graduating with a BA in Fine art Practice and theory from Winchester school of art in 2009, Francis went on to study on a postgraduate Scholarship at the Royal Drawing School. He exhibits widely and has undertaken residencies in the UK and Italy.
