This brand new course will teach you the art of still life drawing in charcoal or pencil.

From bold beginnings, designing compelling and harmonious arrangements to developing your own unique visual language, Francis Martin’s process driven approach will guide you through the fundamentals of drawing in monochrome and making the most from the ‘captive’ subject.

Each week a new subject matter or theme will be introduced alongside practical tuition to help each artist realise their picture making ambitions. The course will include instruction for an array of still life drawing ideas including the use of mark making and quality of line, the use of tonal ‘value’ to mimic light, form and space and the subtle psychology of object arrangement in an artwork.

Francis leads the sessions with live demonstration, theory explanations and one to one guidance. His classes are known for being a relaxed environment where students are free to explore creatively away from judgment and with expert advice.

Francis is an experienced artist and tutor who’s own still life artworks have been exhibited at various galleries including the Mall Galleries and The Royal Overseas League, London.
