Join ceramicist Chiara Coppola on this day workshop to learn the fundamentals of glaze making.

In this hands-on workshop Chiara will teach you the fundamentals of glaze making. This session blends simple glaze theory with practical making.

You will start the day with an introduction to how glazes work, looking at the key materials used in ceramics and what they do. You will learn how different ingredients affect colour, texture and finish, helping you better understand the surfaces you create. Chiara will also teach how common glaze flaws can come about.

Next, you will mix your own base glazes from raw materials, test out recipes, and experiment with simple techniques. Along the way, you’ll learn how to read glaze recipes and begin to understand how to adapt them for your own work.

By the end of the day, you will have your own glaze tests underway (ready to collect after firing), a selection of recipes to take home, and notes to support your learning. Most importantly, you’ll leave feeling more confident and inspired to continue exploring glazes in your own practice.
