Join designer maker Lauren Holloway on this 2-day masterclass workshop to get to know your way around the sewing machine.

This workshop brings together our popular Beginner Machine Sewing and Introduction to Dressmaking workshops in a2-day immersive workshop where you will learn essential basic skills and build confidence in a supportive, friendly environment. Perfect for complete beginners or anyone wanting to brush up their knowledge.

DAY ONE:

Learn how to thread and set up your sewing machine along with key troubleshooting techniques. You will learn how to create different stitches, insert a zip, box corners and make and join pieces of a simple pattern. You will spend the day learning how to make a drawstring bag and a zipped pouch using a selection of fabrics provided.

DAY TWO:

On day two you will learn essential dressmaking techniques whilst making a pair of cosy pyjama bottoms. Learn how to read and understand a commercial pattern and get to grips with waistbands, hemming, buttonholes, joining straight and curved seams, and pattern matching to achieve a professional finish.

You will end the 2-day workshop with an abundance of confidence and skills to take forward into your sewing journey, along with some beautiful finished projects to be proud of.

Please note that this workshop is for those aged 18 and over.

You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.

Who is this workshop for?
Beginners and those who would like a refresher.

What you will need:
All fabrics, patterns and haberdashery are included. Please bring your own sewing machine if you would like to learn on it. You will need a buttonhole foot.

Sewing machines are also available to use in our studio.

The price of this workshop includes a Loungewear Simplicity pattern for Day 2. You will need to bring 3 metres of your own fabric, we recommend a standard weight cotton for the pyjama bottoms or a brushed cotton also works nicely. Please don't bring anything stretchy.

Meet Your Tutor - lauren holloway

Designer and Maker Lauren Holloway has been running her own slow-fashion handbag and accessory brand since 2013. She specialises in making sustainable bags, purses, laptop cases and toiletry storage, all handcrafted in her Bristol-based studio.

She has extensive knowledge and experience in designing patterns and sewing anything from coin purses to backpacks. Lauren offers a range of sewing workshops from beginner to intermediate level, where participants can learn the basics of using a domestic sewing machine, brush up on existing sewing skills or develop new techniques to improve their craft.

Lauren hopes you'll leave her workshop with new-found knowledge and inspiration for future projects.
