Join ceramic artist Jane MacFarlane on this half day workshop to explore Modern Kintsugi, a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Japanese art of repairing pottery with lacquer and precious metals.

Guided by the philosophy of Kintsugi, this workshop embraces imperfection and transformation. Using modern techniques that echo the traditional practice, which can take many weeks to complete, you will experience a mindful, hands-on repair process within a single session.

Focusing on precision and patience, you will use a pre-broken bowl and choose from a range of metallic powders to personalise your piece. The session is relaxed and reflective, with space for conversation and creativity. There will be opportunities for informal discussion throughout to explore the history, theory, and techniques behind traditional Kintsugi practice, with time for questions, shared reflections, and conversation around individual approaches.

You will leave this workshop with a completed Kintsugi bowl to display in your home and the foundational skills needed to continue practicing and developing the technique independently, with the potential to build toward a more traditional Kintsugi practice.
