Join experience artist and tutor Fiona McIntyre on this course and learn how to draw in-depth studies of flora, fauna and small natural objects.

On this 12-week drawing course you will study both in our studio and outdoors in the Abbey Grounds. You will focus on observing the diversity of UK flora and fauna, from small natural objects such as shells, seed heads, feathers to larger forms including tree branches, flowers, and plant structures.

Working from foraged specimens and reference material you will develop key drawing skills combining observational drawing with expressive techniques. Fiona is an expert in making and working with natural media and will be sharing her knowledge as an artist and arborealist as you progress through the course. She will demonstrate the use of unique materials and guide you in developing work using naturally occurring graphites, homemade charcoal, lump pigments, and plant inks to make sensitive, harmonious and beautiful drawings. This course emphasises careful observing and an appreciation of the rhythms and textures inherent in natural forms.

You will leave this course having built in confidence and strengthened your drawing practice whilst being introduced to and guided in working with an exquisite palette of natural media.

NB: During the course there will be several opportunities to get outdoors to draw plants and flowers in Abbey Grounds.
