Join textiles artist Julie Hicks on this day workshop to learn the craft of needle punch.
Inspired by hooked rug making, this workshop introduces the addictive craft of punch needle work. You will make your own "lady" motif on a wooden frame using a threaded, hollow pen-like tool, the punch needle, and a selection of wools and fabrics. This workshop is perfect if you love colour and texture.
Julie will start by demonstrating the punch needle technique and safety with the tool. You will learn how to prepare and stretch fabric over the wooden frame, threading the punch needle and choosing yarns for texture and colour. Working in simple outlines you will fill the areas to build depth and pattern to create a contemporary portrait. Julie will be on hand to give tips for finishing and securing your piece ready for display.
You will leave this workshop with a completed small, textured punch needle “lady” panel and the skills to continue exploring punch needle designs at home. You will have experienced the joy of craft and it’s well-being benefits with like minded people.
